Lovers Do

The next song in the song-by-song release is “Lovers Do.” This is one that Bobby Brinker and I wrote on our 2nd time writing together. It was our first step into the funky vibe together. Bobby had the beat and this awesome synth keyboard progression that was too funky to ignore. We wrote to that and eventually came around to the phrase “what lovers do.”

Within a few hours we had made our way thru the story lyrically, and recorded a scratch vocal over it. From there, Bobby did what he does best and built beautiful production around the song.

Song by Song. . .

“It’s a process…..” A line from a song I wrote w/ my friend Cameron Bedell called, “Haven’t Given Up”. And that statement couldn’t be more true for this project. It’s been just that, a process. A six-song EP, that we’re releasing as as singles throughout the rest of 2020.

Things happen. Life happens. Projects get delayed. But putting out this new music has been something I’ve been wanting & waiting to do since before I moved to Nashville from Norman, OK….wanting new material to be out….waiting until I felt the songs were right. And I couldn’t be more excited to finally be releasing the rest of it throughout 2020. We have already released the first two songs, “Love Back” and “Viral” in 2019. And now, instead of releasing the traditional album or EP, there will be a steady stream of content throughout the year. The EP will be unfolded song by song every couple of months on all of the major streaming platforms.

I can’t sing enough praises of Bobby Brinker and his bringing these songs to life with his natural knack for production. I got to watch him in real-time coming up with unique ideas, rhythms, and phrasings. I’m so proud to have had Bobby record and produce all six songs for this project. I am humbled by the Brinker family’s generosity, hospitality, and spare bedroom throughout this process (Thank you Bobby, Anna, Wells, & Fisher).

I’m forever grateful to my friends and peers that helped make this project happen from the songwriting and production to the promo content, and those who were advising, encouraging, and supporting me along the way including giving me a place to sleep between my trips from OKC to Nashville and in between.

"VIRAL"

With the release of these new songs, I can’t help but want to tell you about the guys that I worked with as it was a joint effort to bring these tunes to life and turn them into what you hear now. So with that in mind, let me introduce the 2nd single of this project called, “Viral.”

I’ve been blessed over the past couple of years to link up w/ some great songwriters in Nashville. You were introduced to Singer/Songwriter/Producer, Bobby Brinker, in the “Love Back” entry. Bobby and I worked with our good friend Cameron Bedell on “Viral.”

Cam’s talent is undeniable. He spits out lyrics and melodies almost quicker than I can keep up. Mixed with Bobby’s funky and soulful tracks, this track as we went, this song felt like something special even before it was finished. I’ve learned so much from these guys and looking forward to more.

I’m excited for “Viral” to be the 2nd single, as it leans into the R&B side of this project. I hope you enjoy it.

A little about the song…

I wrote this song with my producer and good friend Bobby Brinker. Bobby has got rhythm and soulful vibe for days. This guy thinks and hears rhythm and groove in a really special way. It’s one of the first things that caught my ear when we started writing together. And watching him put those thoughts into action on this project has been such a cool experience. Together we co-wrote 4 of the 6 songs on this project.

Bobby had the song idea when we went into the writing room. At the time, it was just the words “love back”. But that phrase started to develop into the concept of putting so much into a relationship, and what you can or can’t get back after it’s over. After diving into this concept laid up against Bobby’s production ideas, Love Back was born. I hope you enjoy it!

National Anthem at OKC Thunder

Chesapeake Arena
(Oklahoma City, OK)

Saturday night. 8pm. 18,000 people in the room.

I was graciously asked to perform the national anthem at the LA Clippers vs. OKC Thunder game.

It had been years since I had performed the national anthem for a crowd even close to this size. And honestly, it was kind of a blur until the very end. But sometimes that’s how some of the best performances go, just being lost in it until the very end. So you hope you have some pictures and video to commemorate the occasion.

Special thanks to my good buddy, Chad Taylor, my parents, and other family & friends who were at the game and took some pictures and video. We were able to get some usable footage of the moment. And being able to share the below video link w/ friends and fans on social media was really special too.
